Baby Girl

A blog about genealogical inheritance and disruption

Welcome to Baby Girl: A Blog about genealogical inheritance and disruption at the intersections of adoption, adoption reunion, memoir, memory and narrative articulations (ethnography). This is a space for intellectual, communal and emotional engagement of the genealogical realities we move through and around in our lives and in our work. I hope to create a discursive space for the consideration of the ways in which inheritance and disruption show up in and through adoption, memoir and narrative articulations. At the end of the day it is about the stories we tell: out loud, in journals, through creative and performing arts, and in the social media space. Who are you? How do you know who you are? What role do your intimate others play in shaping who you are? These are the questions...now is the time. Welcome!

About

I am Noelle. That is the only piece of me that has not been radically changed in the last seven days. I am a transracial adoptee born and adopted in 1970-1971. I was born in El Paso, Texas and my parents were stationed on an air force base in Albuquerque, New Mexico when they adopted me. I believe their intentions  were good. I believe their intrinsic motivations had nothing to do with me as a person. I have never had the desire to find my genetic parents and didn't give much thought beyond them. My son encouraged me to do a DNA test. I failed 23 and Me twice. I finally had results from MyHeritage. I got my results on Saturday, January 5, 2019 and had genetic relatives communicating with me on January 6, 2019. That fast. I had a loving family who generously shared what they knew about how I might be connected to them. I have sent in my Ancestry DNA test January 10, 2019 and we are hoping  those validate and verify what we believe we know about the lost baby.
